Comments on: New firmware for PPC-6700

Does the new firmware still permit tethering. From what I understand the ppc 6700 is the only phone where tethering is permitted with the simple power vision plan. Does this change with this firmware?

Also for the most part SDHC does not require a hardware update. IIRC its purely software. IE its a matter of the vendor (or someone else) writing the driver for it.

are there any NON sdhc 4gb cards like there is for sd?

You can see what version you’re currently running by going to:
Settings->System->Device Information.

I would be very careful with that aku3.3 that is linked above. It is an unofficial release that is not officially supported by Sprint – so use at your own risk.

And of course post your experiences here if you do take the plunge.

Frank: I wasn’t able to find an Alltel firmware anywhere on the web, sorry.

CC: Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, the PPC6700 does not have the hardware to support SDHC. Some devices are upgradable via firmware, but I can’t find anyone that has been successful in hacking the 6700 to work with them.

I am trying to find a firmware update to PPC 6700 that will allow use of SDHC card. I bought a 4G without realizing that it wouldn’t work in the phone. Can’t return it. Silly me, I should have realized there was a difference. Saw a post from someone who put it in their computer and re-formatted the card to FAT 32, but my acer travelmate 3012 won’t recognize it at all – it’s like its not there. If someone has a suggestion – I’d really like to find a way to use the 4G card.
Any help is appreciated!

It worked out fine for me. I never had the need to record a caller, but I know if I hit ‘note’ while on a call, I can hit the record button there. I assume it at least records my side of the conversation.

You might have to reassign the button to start the recording. I changed mine, but I believe the defaults have changed.

How did it work out, I have upgraded to the new firmware and seem to have more issues since the voice record is now on the phone i can no longer record the person calling me, in the old firware i could push the record button while talking and it would record the caller
