Look what came via UPS today:
Guess when my tablet is slated to ship…July 21st. What am I supposed to do with this? Lenovo has found a new way to torture people, they announce that they have created the best convertible sub-notebook Tablet PC ever, take orders, then ship the batteries a month ahead of the computer that uses them. Now I have to sit and stare at this brick and think about how cool it will be when it actually is useful. I CAN’T EVEN CHARGE IT!
Since all I have is the battery, here are my thoughts: It has a nice rubber grip on it, and I can tell it’s a good quality rubber, so it won’t be falling off over time (hopefully). As you can see from the picture, it’s pretty small. My Dell Latitude LS is a sub-notebook, and it appears that length-wise, the X41 Tablet will be the same width, which I’m very excited about. I take my computer with me virtually everywhere, so it’s nice to know that I won’t be adding any bulk to my gadget bag with my new tablet.
I’m disappointed to see that this battery doesn’t have any indicator lights on it. I will have two of these once my tablet arrives, so it would have been nice to be able to see charge status at a glance, but it seems that won’t be possible. Other then that, I can’t think of a single thing to say about it. It is after all, a battery…
But I’m over it, I don’t care, and I’m not going to do a thing about it. The X41 Tablet PC IS the best convertible Tablet PC ‘available’ (notice the quotes…), at least it is the best for my needs.

I feel your pain. I got my Tablet PC sleeve in about one week, and the pain is excruciating. I need to call and find out the estimated shipping date. GL!

Ah…I got my battery too. My X41T, however, is… >_

Thanks for the info guys. Let me know when yours ships! I’d love to at least hear people are getting them. A guy on TPCB got his, but it was the base model, and as far as I can tell, if you ordered anything other then that, they aren’t actually shipping until July 7th (Thanks DrDan).
Anyways, when mine ships - I’ll be posting for sure.

Hrmph, base model? Ok, it was the thinkexpress model, and but it comes with a lot. Only thing I wasn’t happy about was not having bluetooth, but I ordered so early(over the phone, before you could order on the website), Lenovo didn’t even have the other models for me to look at. I could have changed my order later on, but I chose not to and I’m glad because it would have severly delayed my order. In the meanwhile and on the plus side, I discovered how easy it was to install the bluetooth card present in the bluetooth models and so I’ve already ordered the parts.($88) So I early + what I wanted = fine by be, regardless of it being the base model.

Hehe, sorry. I didn’t mean to diminish the ‘totally awesome’ stature of your tablet.
You’ve probably taken the best route out of all of us. I had no idea those kind of componenets were interchangeable - I just assumed the bluetooth module was soldered on. If I knew on June 9th, what I know now about your experience Joker, I would have gone with the ‘base’ model too.
I’ve enjoyed your posts on the buzz, keep ‘em comming!

My status changed to “packing” today.
Any word on yours?
July 7th, 2005 at 1:48 pm |
Yay for you! Very exciting.
Unfortunately, mine still says ‘call’ with no date. Did yours go straight from ‘call’ to packing, or did it change between there.
Thanks so much for letting me know, I was begining to lose hope.

The order I had was “Call”…”Within Two Weeks”…”Packing”.
I have become such a dork over this. I am now that computer geek checking his laptop delivery status every other hour.

Can’t remember what my order said before packing, but it was on packing for about two weeks.

Are you serious? 2 Weeks? This really sucks.

I’m trying to hold off getting too disappointed with them until my first ship date passes, which is July 15th-23rd.
It’s hard though, I feel like they’re keeping me in the dark about it and I’m now learning where the saying, “…on a slow boat from China” came from.
July 8th, 2005 at 11:24 am |
Mine said “Packing” since about 3 days after the order was placed. It’s been more than 3 weeks now since my order was placed.

Change in est ship date. It went from “call” to Aug 8 and is still in “packing” stage. Much longer then the 4-5 weeks originally quoted as worst case scenario.
FYI original order date was June 17th. If this holds true it is 8 WEEKS after I ordered it. Much too long to wait for a product like this.
July 11th, 2005 at 2:24 pm |
Well, mine still says ‘call’…lucky dog.
It really is ridiculous how long this is taking, and with so little communication from Lenovo. I hear some people have gotten snail-mail letters about the delay. I’m not one of them.

I emailed my rep , to his credit he got back to me within a few hours. He said…”just conferred with my supply team, your order is in the packing stages which means they have pulled your machine and are just configuring it. That being said normal ship date once the packing has printed is one week.”
Made me feel better but who knows if this is true.

I ordered on June 11th, and have been told it will ship next week, every week. Luckily, they did ship my docking station a week ago, which will be useless without a Tablet. I would tell you how it is, but it has been sitting in Customs in KY cause LeNoGo has not called to release it. Hopefully, when my Tablet finally ships in November it will sit in Customs for a month or two as well.

LeNoGo - HA! I love it.
That really sucks about looking at the dock. At least you can setup your desk and pretend to have your tablet - I have a battery…not much material for pretending. I can walk around with it in my hand and an analog tablet though, but that gets boring after a couple seconds…
Yeah, I was told by my rep two weeks ago that my shipping lable had printed and it would ship last Friday (July 22nd), at the latest. Well, you can guess that it hasn’t shipped yet.
I’ve emailed him to see what the heck is going on because I just got one of those automated emails about how my order has been delayed, blah blah blah, this Friday at the latest.
I’m pissed because I couldn’t change my shipping address because the lable had been printed, and I’m going out of town for two weeks. Now I have to rely on a coworker to hold on to it until I return.
I’m not a happy customer right now…

Didn’t realize how “hot” the x41t was before I placed my order on 7/25. My “estimated” shipping date is 8/22. I guess this can never be an accurate date from what you guys postings.
My question is school going to start in about 3 weeks and definitely need it by then. Is the X41T such a wonderful tablet pc and worth to wait for another semester, or should I cancel my order and go for the Motion LE 1600 instead. Understanding the Motion LE is a slate tablet, but with the dock, it should about the same. Plus, it received many good reviews as well.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Well, you can see that I’ve already made up my mind on the Motion v. Lenovo debate for ME. But those are very different options.
It really comes down to how much you want to use a keyboard if you’re choosing between those two tablets. I’d argue that even if you want to use the keyboard 33% of the time, it’s worth getting the x41 on convenience alone.
That said, you’ll be cutting it close if you order today. You might be able to find an e-tailer with some in stock within the next week or so, but it’s a gamble if you have no alternative right now.
If you can wait a little while, it seems like they’re finally getting their stuff together and will be delivering them on schedule from now on, but I’d still have a backup plan if you have no computer when school starts.
I ended up putting OneNote on my current laptop during my wait for my tablet, and have fallen in love. I’ll be posting an update on OneNote with a tablet after I’ve actually gotten mine. Which supposedly shipped today, I’m told. Time will tell…
Let me know which you go with and how it turns out!

Thank you so much for the fast reply. It is a great news knowing the computers will be shipped as scheduled. I guess I’ll have 2 weeks into the semester without a computer. My plan B is to use my roomate’s computer if there is any report due.
Thanks again.
