I ended up watching "Sky Captain". It turned out better than I expected, and I really enjoyed the look of the film, as well as the melding of old-school look with future technology. Those flying aircraft carriers were very cool.

I did the math the other day on the life of that power supply, and came up with 13,140 hours (1.5 years * 365 *24) as it was only off for a total of a week during that time. That, coupled with the fact that it was powering a Geforce 6800, 3HDDs, a DVDRW, and an AMD2600+, I think it deserves a metal. :)

Hopefully the new one, with the better airflow management will last longer than it's predecessor.

Yeah, buying computers and having someone else build them for you is definitly easier, and you get the added benefit of being able to call someone when something like this goes wrong. But then what would I do with all the extra time?

Sky Captain, and the World of Tomorrow I say. I haven't seen either, but I heard the first was better. I have it on DVD (back from China :) and have yet to watch it.

Dead power supplies are usually caused by bad components made by crappy suppliers. antec is usually one of the better ones though, so the other cause is usually bad power going into the psu. a ups should fix that too, unless it is old (a ups fixing power and covering your equipment from brownouts will degrade and allow bad things through).

anyways, glad you've got another fun project under your belt. i've built maybe 5 computers and decided to leave it to the professionals. i buy computers now since it really isn't a economic difference any longer.
